Another bit of fun For the DBH comp. This one has been a bit of a bomber. I like it…. But it seems that it is not generaly liked as a t-shirt design. Such is life!! I’ts fun though and that is the main point to art in my opinion!!

This little doodle has been through several generations of change in the last few months. and this is the latest version. A little bit grungy and a big bit of fun.

Designing for T-shirts is such a different art form – there are designs that work on clothing that just wouldn’t work so well in any other media.

I have been concidering recently having some shirts printed up for real – for sale and one of the major problems It seems, is coming up with a design that fits well on all the different sized shirts. Not too big on the small sizes and not too small on the big sizes… .. anyway, some more dreaming and perhaps something will happen.

Had a play round with the Harlequin design yesterday and changed it a bit. Now I can’t deside if I like it in the simple original form better or jazzed up like this… anyhow. it was fun!

Day off today, so I stayed up late last night playing on the computer…….

This one started life as a collection of Tea-stained paper (couldn’t sleep one night a few days ago and so stayed up toasting tea-stained paper in the sandwich toaster) and a little line and dot sketch:

I love how things evolve from seemingly simple ingredients. Especially if you stay up late and sort of let the image just take over…. it’s almost like doodling on a grand scale.

I have been having a wonderful time recently, imagining how to fill up the ‘empty canvas’ that a t-shirt is. Somehow, it is providing the stimulus and inspiration for me at the moment….. and I am enjoying branching out and trying new things without feeling the need to conform to expectations.

Or perhaps it is something else, but in the past couple of months, something has clicked within me and I am now happy to try all the things I have been wanting to try for so long, without that little bit in the back of my mind saying “but what if people don’t like it?” – which is such an inspiration killer!

So. watch this space… more t-shirt designs and explorations coming soon.!

Have had a bit of fun this morning, winding down from a manic tour afternoon yesterday afternoon – 4 tours in a row full of 50 odd teenage boys on a school trip. Besides, I have been neglecting Redbubble recently – most of this year actually!

This t-shirt design is a celebration of the Wedge Tailed Eagle. The Wedge tail eagle is a magnificent bird of prey found in Australia. The ones in Tasmania are a sub-species of the Mainland birds and we only have about 110 breeding pairs left. So they are getting to be quite rare- which is so sad because they are a wonder to see. They have a wing span of up to (sometimes over) 2 meters. HUGE.

The Wedge tail eagle design – or a variation of it – is currently up for voting on Design By Humans too (Stopped voting now – might do a fix and re-submit soon: March 09) . If that gets printed it will be a lot more dramatic than the Redbubble one because it will cover the whole front of the shirt instead of RB’s little t-shirt patch in the middle.  So (shameless begging!!) if you like it and would wear it… please go vote for it!

This t-shirt print is just a bit of fun – inspired by a little doodle I did a while back which has the feel of being a tribal war shield and yet is somewhat feminine too…

These are not the only t-shirts I’ve put up at redbubble. These are 4 older ones (the Sea Dragon, and 3 in the Wave rider series) have been quite popular…

And this one, the Dragon’s Claw, has just sold the 1st one in the last few days.
