About
Hi, I’m Janice… The heart, soul & creator behind Scrabooli Studio..
Why Scrabooli? Well… it is a term I have been using for years in reference to the scribbles/doodles I 1st began doing in class at school as a way of helping myself listen to what the teachers were talking about – you know… distract the creative half of the brain in order to let the other half concentrate.
.
Since then, it has developed into a passion of sorts. My favorite way to pass an evening is watching a hired movie or TV series or listening to music with a pad of paper on my lap and a pile of pens and pencils close at hand. I will sit and just let the pens make their own way across the paper, creating swirls, dots, patterns and textures out of thin air. More recently I have been learning to guide the process more: filling in the outline of a butterfly, creating a set of shapes that are similar in size, look or purpose or creating a fine set of lines and letting those outline shapes effect the Scrabooli that eventuates.
.
Besides Scrabooli, I love pattern, texture, colour …. anything abstract …. macro photography …. and then manipulating the lot in Photoshop or illustrator and using the different bits to come up with something new. This year (2008) I have also been exploring Graphic design through my ‘day-job’ and also with some success, t-shirt design – which is a whole different kettle of fish.
.
Currently my day-job description is ‘Tour Guide’ (mostly) and advertising designer (some of the time) with Hollybank Treetops Adventure, based in Northern Tasmania, Australia. Besides art and flying through the trees, I enjoy hiking, sitting by rivers, reading science fiction, driving in the country, picking apples, veggie gardening, watching clouds, brainstorming ideas, canoeing, contemplating world peace, chocolate, avocados, smoked salmon, art galleries, cheese, markets, mango’s, coconuts, building sand castles, banana cake, climbing trees, designing dream homes, chickens, Chinese checkers, kaleidoscopes, book and stationary and art shops, fire works, ginger cake, hot baths in winter, music, playing the djembe the pan pipes and the tin whistle, riding my bike down hill very fast, sunsets, fairy tales, …….
.
If you are interested, I also have an online folio & shop with Redbubble where you can see some of my work from the last year or so… you can also buy prints of them if you like them and there some t-shirt designs as well.
