by Janice on Nov.23, 2008, under Contemplation's
Doodle: a rough drawing made absentmindedly.
Or at least that is what the dictionary calls it. But what if there is more to it? Just how absentminded do you have to be, for it to be a doodle? What if the same ‘doodle style’ is used deliberately? When does a doodle become something else?

by Janice on Nov.18, 2008, under How To's
Have you ever taken a photo, or found an image or texture that you like, but that is washed out and a little bit flat … And you would like to make it a little more dramatic, increase the tonal depth and contrast – or, on the case of a texture, make it dark and brooding for a grungy background? Without having to mess around with histograms and curves…
Well, I was having a play with the filters yesterday, and came across a combination involving the solarize filter that quickly does just the job…
The ultimate pen-grip shape

I was walking on the beach a week or so back and found a little cuttle-fish bone. It was about 6 inches long and still had the little point on it. I have never seen a cuttle-fish bone with the little point on it before… Didn’t even know they existed. I would love to know how the bone fits into the critter.
Anyway… So there I was… huge big beach… the tide way out… wide clean un-foot-printed, slightly damp, smooth sand… and this neat little point on the cuttle-fish bone.
So you know what comes next, I just couldn’t resist! … …

Dombrovskis, Piccaso, Corbusier, Tim Winton, Azimov,…. If you have heard of these artists and creators you will probably instantly identify them with a particular style or subject matter:
Dombrovskis was a Tasmanian wilderness photographer,
Piccaso was a cubist painter,
Tim Winton writes about place and community,
Le Corbusier was one of the 1st the architects to use concrete,
Azimov was a Sci-fi writter….
Folio: Walking track and interp brochure for Hollybank
by Janice on Nov.12, 2008, under Folio of Work
Earlier this year I was asked to put together an interpretation and walking track information brochure for the Hollybank Forest Resurve. It was intended to be a small introduction to the history, environment and facilities for casual visitors to the reserve. It is a 3-fold (A4 size paper) brochure and has not yet been printed. .. Soon I hope – especially as summer comes on and there are more visitors asking more questions and getting lost on the tracks!
Folio: Print Media Advertising for Hollybank
by Janice on Nov.10, 2008, under Folio of Work
Over the past half year I have, one by one, created a series of advertisements for Hollybank Treetops Adventure, for use in various print media. The one to the right was used in a local wine route touring guide brochure.
Click through to the full post to see the others; created for newspaper spots.

Folio: DL Brochure design for Hollybank Treetops
by Janice on Nov.07, 2008, under Folio of Work
I have recently been designing and re-designing the DL advertising brochure for work (Hollybank Treetops Adventure). The original design, when we opened, was created by an ad agency in Hobart, but since then I have been doing a lot of the graphic design in-house, so we thought I’d have a go at the DL.

The 1st effort was quite good…. The 2nd effort, currently in the proofing stage, is a whole lot better I hope. Check out the results:
